Synopsis:

 
  20 women, ages 30-60, with chronic constipation from 5-54 years, were given 15 reflexology sessions over 4 weeks, then one session weekly for 7 weeks. Participants reported a 40% decrease in discomfort during elimination before reflexology to 0% afterwards and 50% reported normal stool consistency Evaluation was based on questionnaires and daily journals which reported frequency of elimination. 50% reported normal stool consistency and 55% were able to reduce their use of laxatives.

Conclusion:

 
 

Foot reflexology was found to be effective for the relief of chronic constipation.
